This is the beginning of the Metamorphs story. It’s not historically accurate by any means but it’s quick, dirty, and fun. And you finally get to travel to the town everyone was talking about in The Human Between and it’s set 1000 years earlier. This little nugget will take us back to the origin of a family line that has wound in and out of the Metamorphs history throughout time. It is the beginning of a series but can be read as a stand-alone. Hot virgin love, sexy man-beasts, and the time period where you took what you wanted, what could be better?

A minha opinião: Rise of the Animals passa-se numa linha temporal alternativa e é uma prequela doutro livro da autora (que eu não li). 

Athea é a protagonista. Ela é responsável pelas irmãs mais novas depois da morte dos pais e vivem todas numa aldeia murada que está a ser atacada por monstros peludos. Como se não bastasse, Athea fica presa do lado de fora da muralha e descobre que o chefe dos invasores a quer para si. E não, não é canibal.

Se a sua reacção inicial é de medo, Athea acaba por perceber que as coisas não são o que parecem e que, talvez, os invasores sejam afinal os salvadores da sua aldeia.

Ouve-se bem, mas não me prendeu. Talvez se já conhecesse o universo, mas a verdade é que nem sequer fiquei com vontade de o conhecer…

Especially since the fire code chief—and my ex’s high school friend—keeps hassling me about getting the bar up to code, when all I want to do is get the place fixed up so I can go back to the city.

But Jake is making me remember why I love my hometown. And it turns out he isn’t only good at preventing fires, he’s even better at starting them.

And the one between us may just burn forever…

Author’s note: Jake isn’t a daddy yet, but if he has his way, he’ll be knocking up Erica faster than you can say five-alarm blaze. Fireman Daddy is a 18K novella with no cliffhanger and a happily-ever-after.

A minha opinião: Erica Ramos devia ter tido um final feliz. Casou com o seu namorado do secundário e mudaram-se para Nova Iorque. Mas ele traiu-a e divorciaram-se. Agora ela está de regresso a Crescent Cove, porque herdou um bar. O plano é vendê-lo o mais depressa possível e regressar ao bom emprego que tem agora. 

Mas o bar em questão é o ponto de encontro dos bombeiros da cidade e, para vender, tem de ter um relatório positivo do chefe de bombeiros. Que é  Jacob Mills, o antigo melhor amigo do seu ex-marido. 

Jake sempre foi apaixonado por Erica, mas ela estava fora de limites, já que namorava com o seu melhor amigo. Mas agora que ela está de volta à cidade, ele está determinado a não a deixar escapar outra vez. E começa por arranjar uma série de coisas que ela tem de arranjar no bar antes de o poder vender... 

Erica sempre teve sentimentos confusos em relação a Jake. Ele era o amigo a quem ela sempre recorria quando se chateava com o namorado. Mas, se for realmente honesta consigo própria, talvez arranjasse motivos para ir ter com ele... E agora ele definitivamente mexe com ela. Porém, começar alguma coisa com Jake significa alterar os seus planos e ficar em Crescent Cove mais tempo. Será mesmo isso que quer? Conseguirá Jake convencê-la a dar-lhes uma hipótese? 

Foi a minha primeira experiência com esta série e gostei bastante. Vou, definitivamente, ler o resto da série.
