A minha opinião: Summer on the Island foi o primeiro (e único até agora) livro que li cuja história se passa após a pandemia de Covid.
Numa altura em que as restrições começaram a aliviar, e no seguimento da morte do seu pai, Marlow Madsen viaja para a pequena ilha de Teach, na costa da Flórida, para ajudar a mãe a lidar com os bens da família. Mas não viaja sozinha, leva as suas amigas, Aida e Claire, ambas também a precisar de uma mudança de cenário. Aida está a lidar com um divórcio particularmente penoso e Claire com o facto de ter perdido a casa e o negócio nos fogos florestais da Califórnia.
Contudo, este não será um Verão para descansar e recarregar baterias. A leitura do testamento do pai de Marlow revela um segredo que muda tudo o que ela pensava saber sobre ele. E ainda há Walker Cantwell, o filho da empregada dos pais de Marlow em Teach, o novo chefe da polícia da cidade que ela não via há anos e que envelheceu muito bem… Infelizmente, ele parece nem reparar que ela existe, já que a ignora sempre que se encontram…
Também Aida e Claire têm questões com as quais têm de lidar, e decisões a tomar que podem significar o fim da amizade.
E como se não bastasse, alguém as seguiu até à ilha e não tem as melhores intenções…
Summer on the Island conta-nos o romance entre Marlow e Walker, mas é também a história da amizade entre três mulheres. Gosto sempre dos livros da autora, mas este foi realmente especial.
