Desafio Vintage Mystery Reading 2013

ATTENTION: This post will be writen in Portuguese and English.

Ora cá está, o primeiro desafio de 2013!

Este é o terceiro ano em que participo e, uma vez que a Bev resolveu reformular o desafio, vou inscrever-me para o desafio completo, ou seja, vou desafiar-me a ler, pelo menos 8 livros para este desafio.

O Desafio Vintage Mystery Reading 2013 é organizado pelo blog My Reader's Block e consiste em ler, em 2013, livros escritos antes de 1960 que se enquadrem no género mistério. A novidade este ano é que cada um dos livros se deve enquadrar numa das seguintes categorias:

1. Crime Colorido: um livro com uma cor ou referência a cor no título

2. Homicídio em Números: um livro com um número ou quantidade no título

3. Noite de Amadores: um livro com um "detective" que não é um investigador privado, polícia ou investigador oficial

4. Deixa isso para os Profissionais: um livro com polícias, investigadores privados, serviços secretos, espiões profissionais, etc.

5. Jolly Old England: um mistério passado na Grã-Bretanha

6. Yankee Doodle Dandy: um mistério passado nos Estados Unidos
7. Viajante do Mundo: um mistério passado em qualquer país, excepto nos Estados Unidos ou na Grã-Bretanha
8. Bestas Perigosas: um livro com um animal no título
9. Calendário do Crime: um mistério com uma data/feriado/ano/mês/etc. no título
10. Mulheres Perversas: um livro com uma mulher no título, quer por nome, quer por referência

11. Homens Maliciosos: um livro com um homem no título, quer por nome, quer por referência

12. Métodos Assassinos: um livro com um meio de morte no título

13. Encenar o Crime: um mistério passado no mundo do entretenimento

14. Cena do Crime: um livro com o local do crime no título
15. Polícias & Ladrões: um livro com um roubo ao invés de um assassinato
16. Quartos Trancados: um mistério em quarto trancado
17. Criminosos de Casa de Campo: um homicídio passado numa casa de campo
18. Assassinato no Alto Mar: um mistério que envolva água
19. Aviões, Comboios & Automóveis: um mistério que envolva um modo de transporte, explicitamente no título, ou implicitamente, ou se a vítima for atirada para debaixo de um autocarro...
20. O Assassinato é Académico: um mistério envolvendo um estudioso, professor, bibliotecário, etc. OU passado numa escola, universidade, biblioteca, etc.
21. Coisas que Fazem Barulho na Noite: um mistério com algo assustador, arrepiante, gótico no título
22. Criminosos Reincidentes: um mistério no qual entre o nosso detective favorito ou do nosso autor favorito (os livros/autores que lemos uma e outra vez) OU reler um velho favorito
23. Foi o Mordomo... Ou Não: um mistério onde o mordomo é a vítima, o investigador... (gasp) o criminoso... ou que seja simplesmente memorável por qualquer razão

24. Um Mistério por Qualquer Outro Nome: qualquer livro que tenha sido publicado sob mais do que um título
25. Duos Dinâmicos: um mistério com uma equipa de detectives - Holmes & Watson, Pam & Jerry North, Wolfe & Goodwin, ou... uma equipa pouco conhecida que daremos a conhecer

26. O Tamanho Interessa: um livro com um tamanho ou medida no título
27. Fenómeno Psíquico: um mistério com uma sessão espírita, médium, hipnotismo ou outros personagens/eventos psíquicos ou "sobrenaturais"
28. Livro para Filme: um mistério vintage que tenha sido adaptado ao ecrã (cinema ou filme televisivo)
29. The Old Bailey: um mistério passado no tribunal OU um mistério com um juiz, advogado, promotor público, etc.
30. Você Está Livre da Prisão: categoria livre. Uma por freguês. Somos nós que escolhemos a categoria especial na qual o livro se enquadra e conta. Só não conta "É um Mistério Vintage" que esses são todos

Os livros escolhidos podem ser utilizados noutros desafios, e também não há obrigatoriedade de fazer uma lista prévia, pelo que irei escolhendo ao longo do ano.

Here it is, my first challenge for 2013!

This is my third year participating and, since Bev decided to revamp the challenge, I'm signing up for the complete challenge, meaning I pleadge to read 8 books for this challenge.

The Vintage Mystery Reading Challenge 2013 is organized by My Reader's Block and it consists of reading, in 2013, books that are from the mystery category and that have been written before 1960. The news this year is that Bev is offering a bit of a smorgasbord with a theme of "Scattergories". And the categories are:

1. Colorful Crime: a book with a color or reference to color in the title
2. Murder by the Numbers: a book with a number, quantity in the title
3. Amateur Night: a book with a "detective" who is not a P.I.; Police Officer; Official Investigator (Nurse Keate, Father Brown, Miss Marple, etc.)
4. Leave It to the Professionals: a book featuring cops, private eyes, secret service, professional spies, etc.
5. Jolly Old England: one mystery set in Britain
6. Yankee Doodle Dandy: one mystery set in the United States
7. World Traveler: one mystery set in any country except the US or Britain
8. Dangerous Beasts: a book with an animal in the title (The Case of the Grinning Gorilla; The Canary Murder Case; etc.)
9. A Calendar of Crime: a mystery with a date/holiday/year/month/etc. in the title (Hercule Poirot's Christmas, Holiday Homicide, etc.)
10. Wicked Women: a book with a woman in the title--either by name (Mrs. McGinty's Dead) or by reference (The Case of the Vagabound Virgin)
11. Malicious Men: a book with a man in the title--either by name (Maigret & the Yellow Dog) or by reference (The Case of the Haunted Husband)
12. Murderous Methods : a book with a means of death in the title (The Noose, 5 Bullets, Deadly Nightshade, etc).
13. Staging the Crime: a mystery set in the entertainment world (the theater, musical event, a pageant, Hollywood, featuring a magician, etc)
14. Scene of the Crime: a book with the location of the crime in the title (The Body in the Library, Murder at the Vicarage, etc.)
15. Cops & Robbers: a book that features a theft rather than murder
16. Locked Rooms: a locked-room mystery
17. Country House Criminals: a standard (or not-so-standard) Golden Age country house murder
18. Murder on the High Seas: a mystery involving water
19. Planes, Trains & Automobiles: a mystery that involves a mode of transportation in a vital way--explicitly in the title (Murder on the Orient Express) or by implication (Death in the Air; Death Under Sail) or perhaps the victim was shoved under a bus....
20. Murder Is Academic: a mystery involving a scholar, teacher, librarian, etc. OR set at a school, university, library, etc.
21. Things That Go Bump in the Night: a mystery with something spooky, creepy, gothic in the title (The Skeleton in the Clock, Haunted Lady, The Bat, etc.)
22. Repeat Offenders: a mystery featuring your favorite series detective or by your favorite author (the books/authors you'd read over and over again) OR reread an old favorite
23. The Butler Did It...Or Not: a mystery where the butler is the victim, the sleuth....(gasp) the criminal....or is just downright memorable for whatever reason.
24. A Mystery By Any Other Name: any book that has been published under more than one title (Murder Is Easy--aka Easy to Kill [Christie]; Fog of Doubt--aka London Particular [Christianna Brand], etc.)
25. Dynamic Duos: a mystery featuring a detective team--Holmes & Watson, Pam & Jerry North, Wolfe & Goodwin, or....a little-known team that you introduce to us.
26. Size Matters: a book with a size or measurement in the title (Death Has a Small Voice, The Big Four, The Weight of the Evidence, etc.)
27. Psychic Phenomena: a mystery featuring a seance, medium, hypnotism, or other psychic or "supernatural" characters/events
28. Book to Movie: one vintage mystery that has appeared on screen (feature film or TV movie).
29. The Old Bailey: a courtroom drama mystery (Perry Mason, anyone? Witness for the Prosecution...etc.) OR a mystery featuring a judge, lawyer, barrister, D.A., etc.
30. Get Out of Jail Free: This is a freebie category. One per customer. You tell me what special category the book fits ("It's got an awesome cover!"..."First book I grabbed off my shelf") and it counts. Only thing I won't take is "It's a Vintage Mystery!"--that's a given. :-)

The books can crossover into other challenges and you don't have to pick what you want to read ahead of time so I'll just pick them throughout the year.
