A minha opinião: Com a descoberta da identidade do novo Duque de Beckworth no livro anterior, obviamente que A Duke by December teria de ser focado nele. Depois de descobrir que é o novo Duque, Nathaniel Hughes, que tinha feito fortuna nas Américas, decide regressar a Inglaterra e assumir o seu novo papel.
Leva consigo Elizabeth Smith e o meio-irmão dela, John, que salvou há cerca de um ano e que tem protegido desde então. Lizzie tem trabalhado como secretária de Nate, mas em Londres as regras são diferentes, e a sociedade não vê com bons olhos uma mulher nesse papel.
O que complica bastante as coisas, já que Lizzie se apaixonou por Nate no dia em que ele a socorreu a ela e a John. Contudo, ele sempre a tratou como uma miúda e ela conformou-se em ajudá-lo e julga ter-se tornado imprescindível para ele. Infelizmente, ele não parece depender tanto dela em Inglaterra como fazia em Nova Iorque. Na verdade, com todas as novas responsabilidades que Nate herdou, ela quase nunca o vê.
Na realidade o que se passa é que Nate começa a reparar cada vez mais em Lizzie, e não a acha uma miúda... E é por isso que tenta afastar-se dela e dar-lhe a oportunidade de ser uma jovem mulher, com o privilégio e o luxo que ele lhe pode garantir.
O que acontecerá quando perceberem que o que sentem um pelo outro é correspondido? Poderá uma relação entre eles ser aceite pela sociedade inglesa agora que ele é um membro da nobreza? Ou terá Nate de escolher entre a responsabilidade e o amor?
Foi um bom final para uma série de que gostei bastante. Gostei do facto de terem surgidos personagens dos livros anteriores e gostei mesmo muito do John, que não encaixa em lado nenhum (é filho do pai de de Lizzie com uma antiga escrava), tem noção disso, mas não deixa que isso o torne amargo. Leria uma história com ele como protagonista.
Enredos: patrão/empregada, classes sociais diferentes, família encontrada.
